Works well when it works. To begin, its noisy and this is annoying. Ours cycles with about 30 seconds of quiet and 2 to 3 minutes of pressure pump operation. The system works by the pressurization of the ice/water chamber forcing the cold liquid into the connection tube and from there to the cooling jacket. At the end of the cooling cycle the pump shuts off and there is a HISS. Note, if there is no hiss there is NO COOLING!!! The seal has to be tight. A "charge" of ice lasts about 5 hours. Ours came with no instructions. I simply woke up with it on my shoulder. Its hard to tell when its working. A long time lag from start to effective cooling. The system is "height sensitive". The system as whole must be kept at the same height or it stops pumping. No warnings, just a note on the side of the canister.
The unit uses huge amounts of ice. Our fridge ice maker was quickly emptied and we're consuming about 15 to 20 lbs a day
